Eco cleaning - simple recipes for home cleaning products | Zero Waste

Eco cleaning products are safe for children and for us, they don’t pollute the environment and those made at home are much cheaper than shop chemistry. In this post, I will share with you a few recipes for basic cleaning products such as: furniture, glass or bathroom spray.

Essential oils for cleaning

Which essential oils to choose:

Lavender oil
Lemon oil (poisonous for cats)
Orange oil
Grapefruit oil
Rosemary oil
Peppermint oil
Eucalyptus oil
Clove oil
Tea tree oil (poisonous for cats)

These oils have antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

Of course, you can combine oils to get an interesting smell.
The combination of lavender with lemon and rosemary gives a fresh, herbal scent.
A clove with orange has a beautiful spicy scent.
Orange and lemon combined with grapefruit have a fresh, citrus scent perfect for summer.
Mint oil with eucalyptus smells like sweet mints.
And eucalyptus oil with lemon will bring a breath of freshness to your home.

Although these products are ecological, we should save our hands and clean in gloves. Ingredients such as citric acid or borax aren’t as harmful as chlorine or chemistry contained in some cleaning products, but can irritate the skin.

For storing these spray cleanrs, I recommend using Ikea sprinklers (they are very cheap and durable), and if you avoid plastic, you can use glass bottles with a narrow neck and try to match them to the sprinklers on the means that you used.
I used atomizers after the spray from Frosh and matched them to the apple vinegar bottles.

Vegan home-made sugar and coffee scrub - 3 ingredients DIY

Vegan home-made sugar and coffee scrub - 3 ingredients DIY

Vegan home-made sugar and coffee scrub - 3 ingredients DIY

Today I will show you a simple and quick recipe for my favorite sugar-coffee scrub.
This peeling is a great thing for every coffee fan.
It smells beautiful and has very good properties.
It exfoliates, moisturizes and improves circulation.

What you will need:

Sugar
Coffee grounds
Oil
Jar / container for peeling
Spoon
Bowl
Optional:
Essential oil

Preparation:

I start making the peeling by brewing coffee.
The grounds that were left after it were left to cool, and in the meantime measure the amount of sugar.
I put sugar in a container in which I will store the scrub and when the jar is almost full, pours the contents into a bowl.
It adds liquid oil and 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds.
I mix the whole to get a mass with a fairly close consistency.
If the peeling is too watery, we can add more sugar, if it is too dry, add oil.
Then we can add fragrance oil, although the peeling smells coffee itself.
I added vanilla oil because I like the combination of fragrances.

You can store the peeling in a refrigerator and use it within 7 days.

If you add a few drops of vitamin e, you can extend its durability for a few days.

You can use scrub twice a week and remember not to use it on wounds and irritated skin.

An easy recipe for oat milk – 3 ingredients

Today I want to share the recipe for oat milk with you.
I know that there are quite a few types of plant milk, among others soy or rice, nevertheless I stated that I would mention it. Why?

Because it is my favorite and it’s quick to prepare (about 2-5 min). It’s also very tasty with coffee, cereal or just for drinking 😉, but moreover it has a high content of vitamin C (per 100 g is 40mg ).

What will you need? (for 400ml):

  • 3 tbsp of oatmeal
  • ½ liter of water

Of course, if you want make more milk you need to greater the proportions. This is enough for about five uses when adding to coffee
Cats also like oat milk ;)

Preparation :

Well, it is rather simple and doesn’t require a greater philosophy 😃
Pour oatmeal and pour water into the blender cup, add sugar (or another sweetener that we prefer) to it.
Then put a gauze or strainer on the dish in which you want to keep milk (e.g. Glass bottle).
Then pour the milk from the cup into our dish and close it.
And it’s ready 😉

Just remember to shake before each use! 😀
Oat milk can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Well... I hope that you will like them as much as I do. 😉

Take care,

A simple recipe for vegan toothpaste | Zero Waste

A simple recipe for vegan toothpaste | Zero Waste
A simple recipe for vegan toothpaste | Zero Waste

All my life I didn’t know that toothpastes are unhealthy. I became interested in this subject when I started to live ecologically.

In the toothpaste the unhealthy is fluoride, which in excess can cause cancer, disturb the hormonal balance, cause thyroid problems, block the absorption of magnesium and even lower the level of intelligence. Fluoride is not only found in toothpaste, but also in a polluted environment.
The toothpaste also contains glycerine, through which minerals aren’t absorbed in the teeth, triclosan and perfumes that have a carcinogenic effect.
In addition, buying toothpaste in plastic packaging consumes its huge amount and heavily pollute the environment.
The homemade paste doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients, is organic and you can store it in a glass jar.

You can prepare it from several readily available ingredients:

White clay - contains a lot of minerals, cleans, polishes and whitens teeth
Baking soda - cleans teeth and refreshes the breath
Xylitol - fights harmful bacteria, gives a sweet taste
Sage and mint - herbs soothe irritations, refresh the breath and have a disinfecting effect
Coconut oil - has an antibacterial effect
Sea salt - contains a lot of minerals, limits the growth of bacteria
Peppermint Essential Oil - Refreshes the breath, has an antibacterial effect and prolongs the freshness of the paste

Herbal toothpaste:

• White clay - 2 tbsp
• Baking soda - 1 tsp
• Xylitol powder - 1 tbsp
• Salvia powder - 1 tsp
• Mint powder - 1 tsp
• Coconut oil - 1-2 tbsp
• Peppermint essential oil - 20 drops

Preparation:

I start preparing a toothpaste from powdered xylitol in a mortar (if you have xylitol powder, you can skip this step). Then pour it into a bowl to which I add clay, baking soda and herbs. I mix all the ingredients and gradually add the coconut oil until the consistency of the paste is formed. At the end I drop in the essential oil and translate the paste into the jar.

You can use this paste several times a day, and its expiration date is about 3 months.

Whitening toothpaste powder:

• Baking soda - 1 tbsp
• Xylitol powder - 1 tbsp
• White clay - 2 tbsp
• Sea salt (finely ground) - 1 tsp
• Peppermint essential oil - 20 drops

Preparation:

I start preparing paste by mixing soda, xylitol, clay and finely ground salt in a bowl. Then I add the essential oil and mix the paste again. The last step is to translate the paste into the jar.

This paste can be used once a week and must be used in about half a year.

Do you make your toothpaste at home?

Dorota
